RSS Feeds

Yesterday’s assignment was to create an account for an RSS feed aggregator.  Then subscribe to feeds of my own blog, fellow students blogs, and blogs that they recommended.  Well, I did that.   I set up an account under Google Reader.  It wasn’t too painful.  This was definitely a learning experience.    Now, I am at a brick wall.  So my question is:  Am I supposed to set up the same blogs through my own blog site or just access Google Reader for the updates?  Because no one is on my blog but me.

A look at three blog resources

Posted on Updated on

This week’s assignment is to research three instructional design blog sites and critique the efficiency of the site and its resources.  Currently, I am working towards my Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology.   I must also show how these sites relate to me and my field and how they can be used as resources.  This is the first blog that I have created and it has been an adventure.  So let’s explore the three blogs:

1.  IDEAS: Instructional Design for Elearning ApproacheS  – http://ideas.blogs.com/

This blog has a huge header written in blue that reads:  IDEAS: Instructional Design for Elearning Approaches.  There was also a picture of Ferdinand Krauss the person who wrote the blog.  He has had this blog since December 2003.  He has two Bachelor’s degrees and is currently working on his Master’s.  Also, he is an active professor in Instructional Design at the University of Toronto.    This blog is well written, informative and it provides links to resources.  However, I found Professor Krauss’ posts to be out of date.  He has a lot of experience in Instructional Design, and I was looking forward to reading what he has to say.  I just did not think that I would have to leave his site to get the information.

2.  Internet Time Blog – http://www.internettime.com/blog/archives/001083.html

This blog looked very professional and there was a good use of colors and a lot of good information.  In spite of this, this blog also had out of date posts and a lot of pictures that are not visible.   Jay Cross created this blog.  He is the CEO of Internet Time Group, but I think that he is too busy to provide updates at this time.

 3.  WordPress.com – http://en.wordpress.com/tag/instructional-design/

This is an eye catching blog site.  Not to mention, where I have a blog.  I found active entries and good categories to visit.  In addition, I found a blog by Judy Stone where she writes journal entries by the week.  She has information about online learning, theories, etc.  I believe that I can relate to her and what she is going through.  Thus, I see myself using Word Press as a resource to turn to for research.
